SodaStream Fizzi OneTouch Review

I’ve been a voracious (and formerly indiscriminate) sparkling water drinker for years. It didn’t matter where the fizzy water came from or if it was in a can, glass, or plastic bottle. As long as it sparkled, I would drink it. At one point I was averaging two 12-can packs of store-bought seltzer a week.

The SodaStream Fizzi OneTouch is the best home soda maker

Do you want sparkling water on demand but hate the expense, the waste, and all the complicated effort that goes into making it? We’ve been there. If so, you need to get a SodaStream. We’re not alone in thinking that. The SodaStream Fizzi OneTouch produces some of the fizziest, tastiest sparkling water compared with the competition.

If you love the carbonation and convenience but not the plastic waste, clunkiness, or fizz-suppressing ice cubes of soda and bottled water, get a SodaStream.

After years of a steady diet of soda, I cut back on sugar and switched to seltzer water that I bought in stores. It was expensive, wasteful, and just didn’t taste fresh. Last year I tested home soda makers after hearing raves from friends and relative strangers who had wisely cut down on the amount of hard stuff they were pouring into their bodies. After testing 14 models that produced mixed results, we found that SodaStream Fizzi OneTouch produced the freshest-tasting fizz in our test group, with the easiest-to-use system.

Super simple, remarkably effective

We’ve gotten a little carried away with the different soda recipes we can fizz up and poured in a lot of time comparing soda makers. In the process, we’ve consumed more than 200 hours of soda, carbonating a lot more than our body weight. But, you don’t have to indulge in pricy bottled water and expensive sparkling seltzer drinks to reap the benefits of fizzy water. To find out which machine makes the best sparkling water at home, we tested 14 cans and bubblers over 205 hours. We tested consumer models costing $30 to $400, including big brands like SodaStream, Sodastream, and Primo. We also built two DIY machines to compare how much fizz each machine produced per dollar spent on CO2 chargers. While most models are capable of producing effervescent water that would impress at a party, we discovered an affordable winner (an $80 SodaStream) that consistently provided carbonation comparable to that of pricier models—some costing as much as four times more—with a tiny footprint and none of the hassle of having to fill it with CO2 cartridge after cartridge.

The best sparkling water maker

Though seemingly simple, and in fact easy, fizzy water is a fairly complex beverage. There are a number of variables to consider, such as carbonation level, dosage accuracy and bubbles (or lack thereof). Since its debut in 1902 in Germany the home carbonating system has evolved under the watchful eye of scientists, experimental chemists and corporate go-getters. Specific soda stream machines have been developed to bring style and affordability to this unique culinary experience.

There are many home soda makers on the market, but we found that the SodaStream Fizzi OneTouch is the best choice for its ease of use, quality, and attractive design. We’ve clocked hours over the past year testing home soda makers and come to a few conclusions: If you already have good tap water, you can carbonate it with little effort or mess in your own kitchen. You don’t need to spend extra money on a Sodastream machine, an expensive soda recipe book, or tons of flavors. You can simply grind some fresh ginger with a few peppercorns (or if you want to be really fancy, make your own rosemary syrup at home).

The biggest pain points of using a SodaStream are the setup and cleanup process.

The SodaStream Fizzi OneTouch is our favorite way to make sparkling water because it produces the best fizz and the tastiest drinks. As a long-time soda maker owner, I can tell you that this is the appliance that gives you the most consistently excellent results. It gets its performance boost thanks to a simple control mechanism, brand-new pressure release technology, and an improved carbonator. Those features, along with an improved design—placing all of its components where they are easy to reach—make it our top pick.

Where can I use my Sodastream?

Imagine the moment you discover a secret trick for making the best-tasting sparkling water at home— no flavor packets required. The SodaStream Fizzi OneTouch combines the convenience of a soda maker with the taste of fresh-made seltzer, and it costs less over time than buying bulk bottles from the store.

We’ve been testing more soda makers than you’d care to shake a fist at. We learned that some models are too slow, making a mere 1.5 liters over the course of three hours. Others left behind a sediment in our drinks or were simply too complicated to figure out. One top-rated model even shattered when we tried to fill it with water.

Fizzy water is the fun way to hydrate, but it comes with an excessive price tag for many people. Switching to a soda stream can save you money, and we’re here to tell you how.
