The plates have integrated grip openings, making them easier to carry, load and organize than traditional solid-rim iron plates.

Iron grip plates compared with bumper plates
Cast-iron plates are generally thinner than same-weight bumper plates, so more weight can fit on a bar sleeve. Grip openings also help with loading and plate-only exercises.
